Well dear readers, there is some cool new pics up in the Great Outdoors and Bicycles Galleries.
The last couple weeks have been awesome for getting in some epic riding and camping.
First off, I headed out to Mt. Hood for my favorite ride ever.
Gumjuac is a gnarly loop that was introduced to me by a good friend probably 10 yrs ago or so.
Its 16.5 miles of mixed terrain, and seriously challenging with approxiamately 2 hrs of climb right out of the gate.
I finally got wise after completely bonking last time, to start from the bottom of the hill and just get that first 5 miles out of the way.
Seriously, by the time your done with the trail section and wind up back at the road, your in no mood to climb another 5 miles.
Just get it out of the fucking way and your good.
Not to mention, the last section is a totally rad downhill bombing run and it feels great to just ride straight across the road and land in the East fork of the Hood River.
Nice!
I can't remember when I ever completed this ride in under 3.5-4 hrs and this last trip up I clocked it at a solid 2 hrs 45 min. !
Being constantly on the bike this year has been a real bonus and feels great to be logging serious miles again without feeling like that avacado that you've had lurking in your kitchen cabinet for the last 2 months...
On the other hand, it was time for some R&R, so me and the crew loaded up the family truckster ( sans the plastic wood paneling sadly ), and did the jailbreak for Southeastern Oregon.
We bailed early, having a long drive ahead for the middle of nowhere.
There is this place called The Narrows out in Harney County and would be our jumpoff point for area recon and some awesome adventuring.
I love RV parks.
They are generally filled with old folks, in this case old folks and lots of hunters.
Perfect!
They are polite, cool to talk too, and quiet at night.
Unlike some of the places nearer to town, where people have zero manners or respect for others.
That shit drives me fucking nuts.
I mean really, who in the hell goes out to camp, and wants to listen to there car stereo at 12 a.m. anyway ?
Well, drunks and idiots obviously.
Whatever, none of that to be found out there.
If some dumb fucker showed up in the middle of the night making that kind of racket, Im quite sure that it would have been dealt with properly ( see picture of stuffed turkey vulture ), and not involving the cops.
Yes folks, " the code " still exists and its alive and well.
Just not usually in the city....
Anyways, for anyone looking for some good people, great scenery and even better adventure, grab a map.
Find the place that looks like it has basically nothing near it, and go THERE!
Writing about this place is almost futile so just check out the pics and you'll get the idea.
Over and out.
